The Dominican Republic is an old love affair in my life. We all have those favorite places where we want to go back to, right? I will confess to you that the word “Caribbean” always gives a sparkle to my eyes. That turquoise blue sea, year-round sunshine, amazing beaches full of coconut trees. Passion and enchantment for sure.

This time my destination was Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic, more exactly in the Barcelo Bavaro Grand Resort, on the beach of Bavaro considered by UNESCO as one of the ten most beautiful in the world and the Traveller’s Choice Awards as one of the 25 most beautiful in the Caribbean. Simple as that! It is protected by a barrier reef and has a cove that looks more like a pond. It is a delightful place to walk, run, practicing sports or simply to enjoy a beautiful “dolce far niente” in the shade of coconut trees having that amazing sea to call your own.

The Barceló Bávaro is an all inclusive resort which consists of two wings, one for adults only Barceló Bávaro Beach and other for families called Barceló Bávaro Palace where I stayed in the Premium section. The cool thing about this hotel is that it occupies an immense area and has a lot of things to do. It has eleven restaurants, several swimming pools, golf course, casino, night club, two water parks, bowling, a delightful spa, fitness center, several bars, a small shopping, and etc… In addition, it has several cool trips to do in Punta Cana and immerse yourself in the spectacular cenote Hoyo blue (or in one of the many other cenotes), visit the beautiful Saona Island, venturing out of sand buggies through the interior of the island until you reach the beach of Macao, explore a village of taínos to immerse in the local culture and learn how the first inhabitants of the island lived before the arrival of Christopher Columbus.

The first few times I was in Punta Cana there were only a few tourists. Only chartered planes descended there. The airport was super small. Everything changed. I followed the tourist boom of the island that now appears in the wish list of many people. If you still haven’t visited Punta Cana, I recommend it. It is a beautiful island! Idyllic. A place that can be visited during the whole year. It is worth avoiding the rainy months, from August to October. After all, you don’t deserve to get rain in paradise!
