Iceland has entered the dreams of many people and now might be the time. High season goes from June to August, exactly during the trendy European summer. At that time, the days are longer and hotter. You can witness the midnight sun and you will not be stranded with snowstorms! This expedites the trip.
Even though it is a small island, it is amazing the diversity of landscapes that you can see in the country. Iceland fills everyone’s eyes and souls. It is a perfect country for those who want to live an unforgettable experience, in idyllic settings.
The gateway is the capital Reykjavik, home to around 100,000 people. It’s not a lot of people! And they represent a third of the population. Only a few have the courage to face a cold place virtually all year round. But, the city is a charm, very safe, clean and super-developed. To stay in the capital, I suggest the Hotel 101, cozy and very well located.
From there you can not miss a quick trip to the Golden Circle with its geysers, waterfalls, volcano crater and a beautiful national park. You can also make a quick trip to the Blue Lagoon, those famous thermal pools with heated water at a temperature of around 40 degrees celsius and with medicinal properties, however it’s nice to stay overnight to enjoy the place with ease. I suggest the hotel Silica.
With time, take Highway 1 or Ring Road and circle the entire island. You will need at least 10 days. You can only do this whole trip with peace in the summer. In the coldest times the snow really gets in the way.
The country has beautiful waterfalls, glaciers, volcanoes and surreal landscapes. Do not miss the waterfalls of Gullfoss, Skógafoss, Seljalandsfoss (to the south), Godafoss (to the north) and Barnafoss and Hraunfossar which has very blue water (to the west). For more radical adventures such as rappelling or climbing, hire a tour guide.
Include in your itinerary the sensational Jökulsárlón glacial and for a different adventure visit the Eyjafjallajökull volcano that messed up all of Europe in 2010 as it launched its ashes into the air and became known.
I wish you all a week full of sun.
XoXo and until next Tuesday.
