Hello everyone.

I’ll start today’s post with a new word, loaded with history and that I found written in many ways: casbah, qasaba, quasabeh, Kasbah… Well, the spelling doesn’t matter. Kasbah (I prefer using this one) it comes from Arabic and means “central part of a citadel”. Do you know where you will see many Kasbahs? In Morocco. You can even stay in one of them with a lot of luxury. What do you think of this experience?

These fortifications are found in North Africa and originate from Berber, i.e., they were the homes of the ancient African people who lived in tribes in the desert. The kasbahs served as protection for people and their pets in possible attacks, sand storms and climate fluctuations. High walls were built in adobe to become confused with the color of the desert. There were watchtowers distributed in the corners of the walls, since the plant was square. In its interior, a tangle of narrow streets and houses with small windows sheltered people.

Some of the most famous of Morocco are the Kasbah Taouirt in Ouarzazate, near the Sahara Desert and the Kasbah des Oudaias, in Rabat. They are full of history and attract the attention of those who visit the Country.

Imagine staying in a luxurious kasbah, to experience an adventure in berbere style and immerse yourself in Moroccan culture? It is a great idea for those who like to live different experiences. So here are two suggestions: the first is the Kasbah Tamadot, close to Marrakesh. It has only 28 units in the silence of the Atlas Mountains, a magical place! It was bought by Sir Richard Branson in 1998. Today it is part of the select group of hotels with the Virgin Limited Edition seal and this year was awarded for “Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards” in the category “Best Resort Hotel of North Africa and Middle East”. Awesome, don’t you think?

As for the Dar Ahlam is in Skoura, near Ouarzazate, the point of transition between the Atlas Mountains and the Sahara Desert. Marrakech is 250 kilometers away. The hotel has the Small Luxury Hotels seal of the World and has 14 accommodation in luxury pattern (one of them being a tent). Furthermore, the hotel offers the possibility of an adventure in the wilderness, with lodging in a private Moroccan tent for one night. Who doesn’t want that? Tough choice huh! I hope I get to experience both very soon to celebrate my birthday and i’ll share every detail with all of you.

I wish you all a beautiful week full of light.

XoXo
