It is time for Carnival. And let’s be honest, Rio de Janeiro is the number one destination when we talk about this coveted popular party. It’s easy to say that the event appears in the Book of Records as the biggest carnival of the world. There are dozens of bands and blocks through the streets, as well as stylish masked balls and spectacular Parade of Samba Schools in the Sapucaí. A week of revelry.
But, between a block and a parade it’s worth taking advantage of everything the Wonderful City has to offer. Hard not to become enchanted with Rio. So lets start with a few tips. The largest icon is Christ the Redeemer. Climb all the way up to the top and you are sure to be blessed. You cannot miss this. The Sugar Loaf is also a must, so worth the visit. The trolley that gives access to the top of the hill is already part of the program because it shows a beautiful view. If you want strong emotions, take the helicopter as part of the first hill and see the city from up high. As you descend, take advantage that you are in the Urca to enjoy the traditional sunset in on the “mureta”. A classic!
The beaches should also be on your itinerary. There are so many! The famous beach of Copacabana, Ipanema, Leblon, the immaculate Arpoador, the Prainha and Macumba of surfers, the extensive beach of Barra joins with the Recreio reserve. I am sure you will find your corner. If you want to go above and beyond, take a boat trip around the Guanabara Bay.
For the fearless, how about a double flight of hang gliding or paragliding? I have not yet had the courage. I am rehearsing, haha. It must be beautiful and exciting.
It is worth visiting the port region which was revitalized recently and became known. Use the VLT as a means of transport. Include in your walk, the Museum of tomorrow (which is pretty much the acquis and the wonderful work of architecture), the Art Museum of Rio, the gigantic and colorful graffiti panel of the Kobra and the newly opened aquarium called AquaRio. And since you will be in the center of the city, grab a snack in the classic Confeitaria Colombo, visit the impressive Real Gabinete Português de Leitura and watch a show at the Municipal Theater.
Rio is a city full of attractions.
