The country of elves, elves and trolls are definitely on the rise. Iceland is beautiful, tiny, distant, full of personality, and very developed! Come with me and I will introduce you to this capital of difficult name “Reykjavik”, which means “Smoky Bay.” It is the gateway to an unusual place, covered in ice and settled on a layer of magma (yes, after all, it has more than 200 volcanoes), where men and women have equal rights, where there is no army or Mc Donald’s, where there is good free schools for people, water is drinkable in all taps, no insects, vegetables are free from pesticides and so on. Isn’t it interesting?

Access for those who want to get to know Iceland is done by Keflavic airport which is 30 kilometers from Reykjavik. This is the most populous region of the country. Approximately 60% of islanders live in and around the city. The Icelanders are descendants of the Vikings who landed there in the 9th century and have not left.

I chose the charming Hotel-Boutique 101 and it was a total success. The rooms are large, super cozy, modern bathroom, very kind service, delicious breakfast and is located in a very central point, perfect to explore everything on foot.

The city can be explored in one day as it is quite small. But its so nice, colorful and high-spirited that it deserves more time than that. I spent three days and I loved it. Start walking along the seashore and stop at the Sólfar viking sculpture, a bow in the sun made in steel by Jon Gunnar Amason. Then, visit the historic Casa Höfoi where Ronald Reagan and Gorbachev negotiated the end of the Cold War in 1986. From there, follow the high point of the city in terms of architecture, the Harp Opera House. What a breathtaking building! It seems to have been made with giant ice rocks. The source of inspiration was the raw nature of Ice Land. The night lighting is spectacular. Do not miss out on Parliament Square, Dómkirkjan Cathedral, the lake and the Hallgrimskirkja church built in the shape of the bow of a Viking ship. There are several museums in Reykjavik: National Museum of Iceland, Living Art Museum, Perlam, i8 Gallery. If possible, visit them all. Try to save a little energy to get to know the famous Icelandic night. Despite the cold, people fill the nightclubs and drink a lot.

The capital Reykjavik is worth a visit. Charming, safe, developed city with educated people, good hotels and restaurants. Impossible not to fall in love. And, of course, circulate along the coast of the country that is full of natural beauty. Remember the Blue Lagoon I told you about last week? Include the country in your bucket list and I guarantee you will not regret it. It’s magic.

XoXo and see you all next week!
