Antwerp. A very strange name, but very important. I will tell you that this beautiful city of Belgium is considered a “polo fashion” and “world capital of diamonds”. Do you know who has its headquarters there? No less than Tiffany & Co. I was always so curious to go there because in addition to that, the old part of the city is famous and i’m crazy for Belgian chocolates! Until one of these comings and goings around the world, I took a train in Brussels and in less than an hour I was down at the Central Station. Suffice it to say that it was elected in 2014 as the most beautiful in the world.

From the station walk toward the center of town. You will pass by the Meir, main shopping street, take the time to buy some chocolate candies and don’t forget to take a break to eat the most famous waffle of the city at the Coffee Go.

The city is one of the largest in Belgium. It has around 500 thousand inhabitants and its port is one of the largest in the world, on the banks of the Scheldt river. However, it is not that big, you can venture through its alleys on foot. However, don’t be such a misguided tourists like me, who was walking aimlessly, and when I realized it, I was in the middle of the Red Light District surrounded with girls in the windows, as in Amsterdam. I must confess that I was not aware of its existence. It was a total surprise in the path.

If you like museums, visit the Momu totally dedicated to fashion; go to the house where Rubens lived, one of the great baroque painters of the seventeenth century, now a museum that houses many of his works; and do not miss the MAS (Aan de Stroom Museum), a museum of modern architecture that shows the connections of Antwerp with the world and has a terrace from where you can see the city from above. From above see the silhouette of the Cathedral of Our Lady. It has an interesting peculiarity, it took many years to be completed and even so, the second tower, which should be equal to the first, was halved.

The highest point of the city is the Grote Markt, the old central square. The architecture is a treasure. One building more beautiful than the other surrounding the statue of Brabo which is attached to a local legend. It is said that there was a giant who charged a certain amount to those who wanted to cross the river, whoever refused had their hands cut by the giant and thrown into the river. Until a young man named Brabo defeated him! Cut off the hands of the giant and threw them into the river.
