#TravelTips: The Colorful Burano

#DICASDEVIAGEM- A COLORIDA BURANO camila coelho blog7

Hello everyone!

Today I bring to you an Italian city of colorful vibes to brighten your week: Burano. It is not as trendy as its famous cousin Venice, but I guarantee it is worth knowing. This little village was built on some islets and is a very picturesque place, different from the other cities around. What calls attention are the colors of the houses. Simple facades painted with vibrant colors, on the edge of a narrow channel, full of boats.

Burano was born as a stronghold of fishermen. And its biggest fame is exactly the food. Restaurants and kiosks serve fresh fish. A lot of people get the vaporeto from Venice and go there for lunch. It’s close. The boat arrives in just over half an hour. I recommend the charming Riva Rosa for a delicious lunch. The seafood is the best option, of course.

Another high point of Burano is the lace made in the island called “punto in aria” or “point in the air”. The delicacy of the work of the local lacemakers is so great that this lace was already the most popular in Europe in the golden age. Even today, Scuola dei Merletti teaches art so that tradition can be maintained. But, they say the island’s authentic lace is getting harder and harder to find.

Spend a day on the island. Walk along the main street (Via Baldassare Galuppi, whose name honors the village-born composer), enter from the side alleys, explore everything without haste. Take a break for a nice lunch and take a look at the lace.

Also take the opportunity to visit the towns of Murano and Torcelo that are in neighboring islands. I guarantee you will love it!
