There are some places in this world that arouse our curiosity in such a way that we find a way to get there, no matter the distance. Has this ever happened to you? As for me, the Myanmar was a constant dream. Doing that epic balloon flight over the temples of Bagan watching daylight was a movie that was repeated in my imagination. The day has finally come!

Just to put it on the map, Myanmar is in Asia. Its neighbors are: India, Bangladesh, Thailand, Laos and China. It is one of the most closed countries in the world, it is different from everything and it was only recently that it began to reveal itself.

The most visited city in the country is the sensational Bagan. Imagine that in an area of only 40 square kilometers there are more than two thousand temples scattered. That’s right: two thousand! A balloon flight over this treasure of the ancient Kingdom of Burma is breathtaking.

The adventure begins at 5 o’clock in the morning. Even before daybreak, a super-charming vintage red bus, which was once used during the wars, but which now exhibits a peace vibe, passes through the hotels looking for the tourists. I chose the Balloons Over Bagan company for being the pioneer in the country (but there are also Oriental Ballooning and Golden Eagle). The ride price per person ranges from 350 to 450 dollars. It is expensive. But you know what? It is worth every penny. It’s unforgettable.

Still in the dark, coffee is served while you sit near the area where the balloons are being prepared. The butterflies in the stomach kicks in while watching the great movement of inflating the balloons still on the ground. My pilot was a very good Englishman who conveyed complete confidence. So we were invited to board the baskets to float in the sky of Bagan. The balloon began to rise in a small mist of the morning, the sun was rising on the horizon and I could not believe what I was living. Hundreds of temples of all sizes planted on the ground. A surreal scenery !!! On the return, toast with champagne to celebrate the flight and a beautiful breakfast was set on the lawn. A sensational experience. The balloon season in Bagan runs from October to March.

Last tip. In Bagan, stay at the Aureum Palace Bagan hotel. Wonderful. It has immense rustic bungalows on the edge of a lake surrounded by temples. Close by there is an observation tower from where you can see the balloons flying at dawn. I definitely  recommend it.

In addition, rent a scooter and get lost on the dirt roads. You will come face to face with unbelievable temples and so many lovely people.
