#DICAS DE VIAGEM- BONIFÁCIO, A ILHA DA BELEZA camila coelho

This nickname already gives the message of what is to come. And I’ll tell you that it fits just right for Bonifacio, the most beautiful village in Corsica, an island in the Mediterranean Sea that belongs to France. Imagine a fortified medieval citadel that balances on top of a limestone cliff over 80 feet high where white cottages blend with unbelievable scenery surrounded by blue on all sides. You can dream it and add it to your wish list! Its awesome!!

The port is the starting point for those who know Bonifacio whether by land or sea. It is in a totally protected cove, in an arm of the sea that advances through the middle of the cliffs. In addition to the constant movement of the tour boats, it is around the port where the parking lot is located. Car in Corsica is key. Everybody parks there, because getting up to the medieval village by car is possible, but there is practically no where to park and the alleys are very narrow and busy. So leave the car resting and go on foot or by train. The climb is so beautiful that it is already part of the tour.

Bonifacio dates back to the 12th century. Today, there are around 3,000 people there. Walk unhurriedly enjoying the alleys and the vibe going back in time. Visit the churches, the defense points of the city, go to La Manichella square to enjoy the view and if you have energy left go down the 185 steps of the Aragon King’s Staircase stuck in the stone that lead to sea level (but remember you will have to go back up all those stairs).

When you get tired take a break for lunch. I suggest the Stella D’Oro restaurant with fresh fish and delicious entrees.

Also do not forget to take a boat trip through the rocky inlets, caves and cliffs of the region. There are many tour offers in the port. I opted for the one-hour circuit and nailed the pick. With time, it is worth exploring the Cavallo and Lavezzi islands.

To stay, I recommend the elegant Casa del Mar in Porto Vecchio, a village 15 minutes from Bonifacio.

Just for an extra bonus, I will remind you that Bonifacio is less than 20 kilometers from Sardinia. How about a stop there as well?

XoXo and see you all next Tuesday.
