#DICAS DE VIAGEM- UMA AVENTURA NO GELO NO GLACIAR PERITO MORENO camila coelho

If you like good adventures and stunning scenery then you need to go to the Patagonian glaciers. It’s like going into a movie like “The Ice Age”. A sensational experience, different from everything else and relatively close to Brazil. And the good news is that the best season starts now, from October to May, when temperatures get friendlier in the Southern Hemisphere.

Patagonia is an enormous territory that occupies the extreme south of Argentina and Chile, where there are more than 300 glaciers in the Glacier National Park and Perito Moreno (on the Argentine side) is the most known and declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1981. Its previous part extends for more than 5 kilometers and its height exceeds 70 meters above the lake’s surface. An immense white and frozen area. It is sensational to stand in front of this wall and watch the behavior of the glacier that occasionally lets some block of ice detach and emits a tremendous roar. An indescribable beauty and force.

This region is inhabited by people living in extreme climatic conditions. And that’s exactly what attracts attention and leads many people to explore their own limits. Would you be up for this experience?

I did a trekking in Perito Moreno Glacier with the company Destino Australes. The tour lasts 10 hours and is not tiring. In fact, it is a must see. From those places you need to visit at least once in a lifetime. I stayed at the sensational Eolo hotel in El Calafate and from there until the entrance to the Glacier National Park was less than a two-hour drive with a coffee break.

Then a short boat ride leads to the edge of the glacier. And by that time your jaw starts to drop. Then, in a small kiosk that serves as a point of support, you get “staples” to put on your feet so you can walk on the ice without the risk of slipping. The adventure of walking on the glacier (with a guide!) And exploring some ice caves takes just over an hour. On the way back, lunch is served on outdoor wooden tables facing the glacier in a beautiful place. To finish with a cherry on top, a walk across the lake to see the glacier from the front. Sensational!

TIP: You can also go kayaking on the lake in front of the glaciers. Be aware that they have stabilizers and do not turn easily.

Also nearby include Upsala Glacier, Fitz Roy, Viedma Glacier (Argentina) and Torres del Paine (Chile).

I wish you all a great week.

XoXo and see you next Tuesday.
