From December to January, glitter and sparkle appeared on sequin, brocades, and metallic embroidery, reassuring their power as absolute trend this year that is coming to an end.
And, for Christmas and New Year’s ensembles, it couldn’t be any different! The season of events, parties and celebrations – occasions that demand more elaborate looks – it’s the ideal time to bet on colors and textures that reflect light! 🙂
Despite the festive essence that it holds, the trend can definitely transition to daytime compositions. The trick is balancing with more opaque pieces, as in the combinations that Camila Coelho and I created:
The sequin pantacourt was a statement piece for my first look and brought the brightness in the right measure between shades of blue and black. A perfect harmony for either day to day looks, as well as for the night.
In addition to working well with any skin tone, silver carries futuristic identity that took over fashion in 2016. While Camila chose a bomber jacket in that shade – another trend that has gained prominence in this season – with a white t-shirt and jeans, I wore the shade as light point in a more clean ensemble.
On the runways, once again Lebanese fashion designer Zuhair Murad knew exactly how to materialize the glamour in modern designs. As usual, the brand invested in handmade embroidery appliqués on fine fabrics.
During Paris fashion week, designer Anthony brought rocker references in his collection for Saint Laurent, like vintage gold in metallic textures, which were main protagonists in some of his looks.

With the tropical Italian theme, the brand rescued the craft work in luxurious sequin embroidery in sequins and paillettes. With retro shades, the brightness reflected in dresses and elongated coats in a chic atmosphere.
For those who prefer to escape the shimmering appliqués, it’s worth inspiring yourselves on runway shows of Kenzo and Elie Saab and go for metallic colored fabrics as a way to bring light to your looks!
The laminate effect, in it’s turn, was worked by the emerging brands Au Jour Le Jour and Monse. While the first revived the Parisian runway with its bright silver in oversized pieces, the second proposed structured dresses, different necklines and asymmetry in reddish gold.
In ensembles that inspire luxury, metallic has become an important reference for fashion and can be worn by all! Simply find a balance between the trend and your personal style.
