In the group of “classics of the classics”, clearly, the trench coat is a required item of the contemporary wardrobe. It carries a “Very British” legacy, it foes through disputes between Burberry and Aquascutum to know who really created them in the 19th century. Created traditionally with gabardine, it was developed to protect you from rain and cold. Today, the runways show new aesthetic adaptations, either with different materials or details, and i’m glad to see how it is possible to bring creative proposals – although I love the originals!

Camila and I wore the piece with different interpretations and each one with our own style. She went for a red version with braided details on the shoulders, zippers on the sleeves and on the pockets, that resemble the perfecto jackets, and metal buttons for closure. There’s such a young attitude to this look which also brings a white shirt with a high collar. As for my vision, I opted for an ideal model for the rainy days in São Paulo, with super-lightweight fabric and satin luster to give a touch of modernity. Underneath, a graphic green shirt for a cool contrast.

In the latest collections, a lot more ways of how to wear them! The sophisticated and minimalist The Row went for a leather trench coat in an earthy shade without buttons, with wide collars and length up to the heel. A style trick to adopt – especially if the temperature is favorable – is the overlapping of jackets. It is unexpected and aesthetically elegant. Used as a dress, Colovos brought a model with a broad shape, with loop belt and only two buttons on the collar.

For Balenciaga, Demna Gvasalia gave life to his trench coat with generous shoulder pads, which bring an 80’s reference, and boyish structure with just the belt touch to mark the silhouette. As for Derek Lam, the proposal follows the clean trend in relation to buttons, which are replaced by a belt.

Philosophy di Lorenzo Serafini and Lanvin went for creations that bring both pastel shades as well as the all black. The first presented the light blue with animal print details for a fun touch, while the French paraded their mix of varnished trench coat with woven silk in specific applications. Très chic!

Here are some examples of how the rules are broken. From the original, arise the adjustments and daring ways to insert them in your day-to-day. Talking about the trends, history repeats itself. You see something you like and immediately you absorb it and dress  it in your own way. It is a delight to dare and transform everything that fashion offers us!
