#DICAS DE VIAGEM- TREKKING À LAGUNA ESMERALDA, NO USHUAIA camila coelho7

Patagonia is a consuming dream for many people, especially those who love travel adventure. Is trekking for you? If so, know that this region occupies an immense area that encompasses both southern Argentina and Chile. It has unbeatable natural beauty and has dozens of trails leading to lakes formed by the melting water of the snowy peaks of the Andes. The color of these lakes can not be more beautiful, it varies from turquoise to green.

The trekking to Laguna Esmeralda, in Ushuaia, is one of the most famous. The beginning of the trail is 14 kilometers from the center of the city. And there begins a path of 5 kilometers of moderate level that passes through woods, streams and by some humid and very muddy areas. That’s why you need to be prepared, with waterproof boots and appropriate clothing. In addition, the weather can suddenly change in this region, so be prepared for wind, snow, cold, rain, heat … The ideal is to do the trekking accompanied by a good local guide. It is said that there are many lost people who ask for ransom on the mountain. You can not risk it. Our guide was Nicolas appointed by Ushuaia under Measure, which organizes personalized itineraries in Patagonia Argentina.

After two hours of walking comes the well deserved prize: the Emerald Lagoon. Wow!! Breathtaking. The lagoon has this blue-green coloration due to the minerals that it contains and is surrounded by high mountains with snowy peaks. To crown this moment, we opened a wine with cheeses and cold cuts, while our guide prepared a lentil soup typical of the region.

On the way back we passed a dam. Can you imagine the animal-engineers who made the dam? The beavers. They are not native to this region. They were brought from Canada in the 1940s to have their skin marketed. However, the industry was abandoned and the animals were released in the wild. The result was overwhelming growth of the beavers and a disaster in the ecosystem. Animals have become a serious problem. Despite the damage done to the environment they are impressive. How small animals are capable of such great engineering works?
