Those who follow me on social media for quite some time know that I love an all black look, after all, it’s a classic that you cant go wrong with. You can wear it any time of the day, any occasion and still look chic. Of course, it is not only by being black but the shape, texture and fabric of the pieces have an enormous importance when putting together a fashionista look.

Here, two examples! The first is the look that Camila wore, with clothes of completely different moods, but they have created a very modern line. She went for an overlay with a lace blouse and body + a skirt with a slit + belt for a power woman look! Notice how the encounter of different materials transforms the black. If it were a pair of tailored pants or a chiffon skirt along with the blouse + body combo, the look would pass another message (from the most formal to the romantic and delicate). In my ensemble, a quite different proposal. I went for a coat with a mix of lurex yarns with clochard pants and boots made of neoprene.

In the collections, the all black always shows its face according to the style of each brand. Bottega Veneta presented its version (extremely sophisticated) composed by dress coats, pumps and stalkings that mixed gray and black stripes. See how some details make all the difference. There are metal details and belts on the coats. In newly presented Louis Vuitton’s Resort 2018, Nicolas Ghesquière worked the absolute modernity in his runway with the right to armed structures on sleeves, leather, metal, tights and bold boots.

The navarro style created by Maria Grazia Chiuri for Dior brought dresses with fine pleats and romantic sheer details.  In keeping with the the Millennial Generation mood, she put sets of underwear with strands with the name “Christian Dior”, which are already the biggest trend since her first collection. In Prada, deconstructed tailoring transformed the dress-coat in an ultra-feminine piece furrowed at the waist and shoulder to shoulder neckline. The contrast follows a sporty vibe of boxer stocking, after all, Miuccia loves contrasts!

Alexander Wang, a lover of all black, mixed tailoring with a subtle touch of sensuality and the leather details on the sleeves with a rocker attitude. With overlay lace, cutout and fringe dresses, Alexander McQueen gave new life to his monotone. Even with the brightness and transparency of the daring model, the styling featured a pair of large shape, which seems to have been stolen from the male wardrobe.

Lesson of so many examples: the great challenge of black is how you will match it. Therefore, go for layers, sparkles and not so obvious materials. After all, there is nothing “basic” about black, right?
