“Go big or go home” was the sentence that I read during international fashion week at the beginning of this year, to strengthen the use of large models, mainly of pants. The attention is all in the shapes of wide and long legs. Among the many models, the wide leg pants, which was a hit in the 80s and 90s, is the perfect option for an easy and elegant maxi look. Its simplicity is in the versatility: it goes well with both bodies, such as the one worn by Camila in the white + pastel look in a summer mood, as with a turtle neck cardigan with sequins in an ensemble ideal for colder days, as the style by designer Gloria Coelho which I wore in São Paulo. The secret lies in the styling! To disguise the hips, go for maxi cardigans; if the problem is height, choose a pair of pumps or platform sandals – and voilà!
On the runways, a wave of inspiration for all styles. Since I love neutral tone combinations, I found incredible the number of black and white sequence, as seen in Carolina Herrera Resort 2017 with its voluminous trousers, as well as the always sophisticated Ralph Lauren. The proposals are completely different, but the two colors are so chic. At first, the focus is on the well defined waist with a belt – and forming this beautiful ruffle. As for Ralph Lauren, a bohemian vibe with the bat sleeve blouse and the white wide leg trousers.
The combo is also seen in monochrome looks as well. The lace shirt was the right choice for a modern and feminine match. The trousers follow the traces of tailoring for men but with unexpected details – notice the stitching on the sides. In Max Mara, the velvet trend dominated the blazer + tailored trousers look. For an extra touch, a cashmere turtle neck sweater. In both cases, the game of textures was the important fashion point to update the all white and all black.
The wide leg pants have good friends! The navy blue jacket presented by Chloé is the perfect third piece for those who love the preppy style. The more relaxed and urban Y/Project chose denim for wide leg trousers, which gains a white cloth detail for more movement.
So which one is your favorite?
