Iceland entered so many people’s wish list when Justin Timberlake chose the island to commemorate his anniversary whith his wife. Until then, the Land of Ice was little coveted. Jessica Biel revealed that Nature took it’s time there and aroused the curiosity of many.  As I am curious… There I went to climb in outrageously beautiful glaciers, hunt aurora borealis, ride snowmobile on frozen lakes, hike in the volcanic black sand beaches and relax in water so hot that serve to produce geothermal energy.

Iceland is a small island in the Arctic Circle, completely volcanic. Remember that volcano with a difficult name, Eyjafjallajökull, which paralyzed a good part of air traffic in the world with its ashes? Well it is only one of many volcanoes that exist there. When the airplane is approaching the island, what you see is snow. Just snow. However, beneath this layer of snow, a few meters of depth, what exists is magma.

Therefore, there are more than 170 springs in Iceland with hot water. Some of them are used to produce energy for the country. In others, it is possible to dive and relax. It is exactly in one of them that the famous Blue Lagoon is located, in the town of Grindavik.

Blue Lagoon is a milky blue water lagoon, full of silica (one of the favorites of the cosmetic world at the moment). There, a spa that uses thermal waters coming from a geothermal plant was created. The water is wonderful, warm, relaxing and has medicinal properties. You can’t even notice the cold it is outside, where the snow reigns the greater part of the year. The Blue Lagoon is one of the most visited in Iceland. You must make a reservation well in advance to guarantee your place. You can book  various types of massages and even have a few drinks at the wet bar.

Next to the lagoon, there are two good hotels for those who want to relax in Iceland after enjoying the cold climate of the country: Silica Hotel and Northern Lights.

Iceland is far away, but worth every minute of the flight. I guarantee you will love the country. Did you become curious like it did? Did it make you want to visit this amazing place?

I wish you all a wonderful week.
