Quarantine day # 55. We’ve been confined for almost two months. Some alone, others with family or friends. Some crying out for good company, others wanting space. Some enjoying the moment, others desperate. What we do know is that when we can finally leave the house, the first choices will be directed to places that take us to loved ones, that have some close affective bond, that have an exuberant nature, and that are relatively close, within a few hours’ reach by car.
Below I suggest a charming city in Brazil, full of history, with beautiful beaches, many waterfalls, small inns, and close to both Rio and São Paulo: the very cute Paraty.
The city was built at the end of the 16th century, between the sea and the mountains, and maintains the air of yesteryear in its flowery streets, with stone floors. So much so that it was listed by the National Historical and Artistic Heritage Institute – IPHAN – in 1958.
Paraty, besides having a beautiful historical heritage, is one of the most photogenic Brazilian cities. It has delicious restaurants, artisanal cachaças and very exclusive inns like Casa Turquesa with only 9 rooms (where I suggest the brown room) and Pousada Literária that makes a cheese bread waffle from the gods that I share the recipe with you to brighten up the quarantine.
Blend 1 cup of milk, 1 egg and ½ cup of oil in a blender. Add 200 grams of cured minas cheese, salt and beat some more. Finally add 1 and ½ cup of sour powder and ½ teaspoon of yeast. Beat quickly. Pour enough into a waffle maker or small saucepan and eat with a sigh. It is delicious!
I hope your week is as good as this waffle cheese bread and that you are doing well.
XoXo and see you next Tuesday.
