After the predominance of the minibags and pochetes, it was the big models turn which gain space in the catwalks and in street style, bringing a kind of revival of the 2000’s.  With the hectic routine, from the first appointment of the day to the last, it is important to have a bag that fits, at least, a makeup bag, a cell phone charger and a book. In other words, we need space.

To our delight, brands are investing in incredible fashionista versions with modern formats and full of stories to tell. In fact, the fever started after Demna Gvasalia’s entry into Balenciaga, when the stylist brought “farmers market” bags to her Summer 2017 collection. Now, several brands have launched their it-bags – from the The Giant tote by Burberry, to the adaptation of Sylvie, from Gucci.

Camila and I have already chosen our darlings to wear during the day. She bet on the Book Tote Dior to wear during her coming to Brazil. Besides practical and elegant, the bag was perfect to be touch of color of the black and white look. As for my look, I bet on The tapestry bag with Dior rock print, which is part of the stunning Sauvage collection. The inspiration of Maria Grazia Chiuri came from the archives of the maison dating to 1951. This material is part of the creations of Christian Dior himself, who sought ideas in the records of the cave of Lascaux and developed a picture with drawings that resemble a primitive female representation for the line named Ovale. I love this mixture of upholstery and leather with handmade feel, which is the face of Brazil. Look how it has a story to tell! The model was ideal for breaking the neutral tones of the shirt + sarouel pants.

In recent shows, the model goes according to the key concept of the season, which emphasizes athletic looks and the sportswear deluxe trend. The mood of the moment are comfortable, modern, practical and functional clothes.  For Mulberry, the red version with metallic gold closure was the bold touch of the proposal made up of flowy and super feminine pieces. For Chanel, Karl Lagerfeld took to his autumn forest, shopping bags with textures of wool and the brand name printed in giant font, leaving “Cha” on one side and “Nel” on the other.

Here, Balenciaga and Burberry took the concept seriously and explored other avenues for extra large sizes. The Frenchwoman bet on the mix of leather and fur on the inside creating a cool and irreverent contrast. In the creation of the British, the white was broken by the strip of dark green leather and the yellow handle.

In the super modern Marni, an unusual construction, with volumes and certain malleability. Not to mention the vibrant pink that contrasts with the black straps. Fendi increased the standard size of the Peekaboo it-bag, while maintaining its contemporary characteristics and sophisticated features.

This is a perfect trend for Brazilians, who fulfill a hectic schedule. I believe that functionality is the word that defines 2018. And the maxibags are here to prove it.
