Statement sleeves have been a major trend for 2019, and this trend show no signs of slowing down anytime soon. A statement sleeve can be found on silhouettes of all kinds and can be classified as a blouse or dress with added embellishments on the sleeves—everything from voluminous arms to ruffles to billowy flared fabric at the wrists. Designers are adding statement sleeves to styles and fabrics of all kinds, and this detail adds instant drama to your look.
A statement sleeve draws your eye and becomes the immediate area of interest for your outfit. The rest of your look can be super streamlined with clean lines and minimal volume to let your sleeves do all the talking. If you choose a top with sleeve interest, you can keep the rest of your outfit simple by pairing it with a clean (non-ripped) pair of jeans and sleek shoes. It’s nice to balance out a voluminous top with something more tailored on the bottom.

Brands across the board have jumped on the statement sleeve trend, with chic options being offered everywhere from fast fashion retailers to luxury labels. Affordable brands like Mango are leaning into chiffon puff sleeve tops like this and this, while contemporary labels like Camila Coelho Collection are offering fall sweaters with bold shoulders like the Darin Sweater and Blaire Sweater. Then of course luxury brands like Altuzarra and Magda Butrym have gorgeous options available as well, if you’re looking to spend a bit more on this trend. Either way it’s a safe style to buy into because it seems this trend is here to stay.
