Wow!! Sri Lanka is jaw-dropping. So many good surprises. A country that made me happy from the first to the last day of my trip. Many of you followed the Instagram @blogviajarpelomundo and saw how incredible it is. It has beautiful beaches, historic cities, wonderful Buddhist temples, the best tea in the world, unparalleled hospitality, lots of security, herds and more herds of wild elephants and the best of all was staying in an exclusive and super luxurious mega cocoon within a national park, at the wonderful Wild Coast Tented Lodge.
I’ll tell you everything. I programed 10 days in Sri Lanka. The country is famous for its national parks filled with wild animals: leopards, elephants, bears, crocodiles, buffaloes, monkeys … One of the places I needed to include in the itinerary was the Yala National Park. I researched a lot and discovered a dream hotel with the Relais & Chateaux seal within the newly opened reserve – the Wild Coast Tented Lodge. I booked my “cocoon” and spent two days in the best “Indiana Jones” style in this magical place!
The Wild Coast Tented Lodge is practically inside the reserve. The animals circulate freely. More so that after dark you can only walk around the hotel with some security and after dinner you can not leave the “cocoon” anymore. But this is not a problem. It’s actually fun. Everything you could need will be available there (water, coffee, tea, biscuits, fruit, wine, beer …). The hotel has only 28 beautiful, mega comfortable tents, impeccably decorated with the feel of the place, some with a private pool. The beds have canopy, the bathroom is all in copper. Amazing!!!
From the hotel, two safaris depart daily, one early and the other at dusk. I saw many animals a few meters from the car. I had such a good luck finding a leopard that stood there for a moment. I saw many Elephants and was delighted to receive explanations from the guide about their habits. Did you know that when it starts biting its trunk and walking in your direction it’s time to get out of the way because he’s angry? Yeah. One of them came with everything on top of the car and the driver left fast in reverse. It was so exciting to see these animals loose in their natural environment.
Upon returning from the safari, it’s time to relax at the spa, enjoy a swimming pool, watch the sunset by the sea or have a drink at the open bar, all made from bamboo. I stayed two days and could have stayed two more. What a cinematographic place. On top of everything, the kitchen is super catered from breakfast to dinner.
Write down this tip fondly and you will not regret it. I guarantee!
