We have reached the third month of isolation. This wave of insecurity that surrounds the world begins to signal change with a white flag. Gradually we will leave the cocoon to live days of hope and reframing. Certainly, authentic and unique experiences, in hotels focused on sustainability, inserted in the local context and where one can contemplate nature will speak louder to the heart. Have you heard about Alter do Chão?

Para chegar lá há voos diários a partir de Belém ou Manaus até Santarém e depois é preciso fazer um trecho de carro, em 30 minutos.

Alter do Chão is one of the most special places in Brazil. It is in Pará and was nominated by the British newspaper The Guardian as the freshwater resort with the most beautiful beach in the world. Incredible isn’t it?

To enjoy this paradise, visit the Tapajós River, hike through the forest, explore the beaches, igapós and igarapés, I recommend Pousada Boutique Vila de Alter, with the seal of Circuito Elegante and Remote Latin America. The reopening forecast points to July or August, already adapted to the new security protocols. Vila de Alter was born in 2016 with sustainable DNA. It is totally committed to the preservation of the environment, at the same time that it values comfort and hospitality. Owners Andrea Aymar and Regina Santos go to great lengths to make guests feel at home and have an authentic experience in the Pará Amazon.

The six bungalows were designed along the lines of the riverside houses, suspended on stilts, with reforestation wood. All spaces are connected by walkways suspended over native vegetation. Another delicious treat in Vila do Alter is to have breakfast served individually on the balcony of the bungalow, until 11 am, with ingredients provided by the local communities. In addition, the inn has a selective collection program, composting and uses ecological pits for basic sanitation with banana trees to filter gray waters. While it is closed, the inn has helped the local community by donating food, hygiene products, and making fabric masks (reusing the layette sheets). Last year the Vila de Alter inn was consecrated as one of the 25 best in Brazil, with the title Travelers Choice 2019.

To get there there are daily flights from Belém or Manaus to Santarém and then you have to make a 30 minute stretch by car.
