In the bustle of the lively Marrakech, I went after an oasis of peace to celebrate my birthday in style. I found “The Place”, the Amanjena hotel. Exactly what I dreamed of for this special date. As I arrived, look at what I found out… David Beckham had also chosen the Amanjena to celebrate his birthday with some ultra fun guests. My idea was not unusual but was super “chic”, don’t you think?! Moreover, in 2010, the Amanjena served as backdrop for the Sex and the City 2 film.
Now I will leave you sighing with what I found just 8 kilometers from the center of Marrakech. Literally a “haven of peace” which is the meaning of the word “Amanjena”. What a vibe! Everything in the hotel is grand, in pastel pink, between lakes and lots of green distributed over a vast area. It even has a golf course with 21 holes. The whole complex was built in 2000 very whim in details. Amazing!
In the lobby the kindness of the staff is so welcoming. Check-in is done so friendly while a traditional mint tea is served in the lobby which is decorated with two fountains full of flower petals and colonnades. The first impact does not have to be better. Then, you begin to walk up to the room and there even is that the chin is falling. Long hallways with colonnades border lakes and pools that reflect the buildings around. It is beautiful!
Guests are accommodated in a large house with a patio, gazebo, fountain, deck chairs and trees, some of which have a private swimming pool.
The room is super clean and with decoration inspired by the Berber villages in the region. It has high ceilings, super comfortable king-size beds, a fireplace and beside the bed a Moroccan babouche is waiting for you. A super local gift, I loved it. And the bathroom? Huge! With a ward for her and another for him.
The breakfast is another high point. The Moroccan fruits are very tasty and the breads are fantastic, after all, they have a French influence. Furthermore, the hotel has two great restaurants, a Moroccan and a Japanese. Oh, and of course we loved the spa with a hammam! However, I will admit that I did not have time to visit the gym (haha).
To go to the center of Marrakech, the hotel has drivers and guides to accompany during the tours. On the first day, I circulated the place to explore the Medina. As for the second day, dominating the area and feeling safe, I took a taxi and and circuled alone by the labyrinths of the souqs. An incredible experience.
Do you think my birthday was special?
I wish you all a peaceful week as the one I had at the Amanjena! Next week’s post I will share with with you about the colorful and effervescent Marrakech.
