Hi everyone!

You already know that traveling is a part of my life. Whether it’s for  work, to celebrate an important date, to meet a new place, to relax, to rethink life. No matter the reason,  traveling is a great pleasure!

It was to celebrate my birthday that I chose one of the most spiritualized country i’ve ever been: Bhutan. I will tell you a little bit of my experience in the “Country of Happiness”, a place not very known, due to being quite closed to mass tourism. It is small, isolated, planted on the feet of the Himalayas between China and India. I was absolutely delighted with the uniqueness of the traditions of the country. They are Buddhists in the extreme. Super friendly and at peace with life. They are adapted to polyandry, i.e., a married woman with several men. They accept  homosexuality perfectly. They live in small rural communities, very simple. They are happy with what they have. They all dress the same way: men with Gho and women with Kira. The monks  are the ones who name the children at birth and not the parents. They are beasts in bow and arrow. They do not value material goods. Even being one of the poorest countries in the world, crime rates are very low, zero hunger, there is no record of corruption in the government and the king is loved by all for ruling the country by emphasizing Internal Happiness. Isn’t it awesome?!

Furthermore, the architecture is incredible. The houses are made of wood with carved facades and roofs painted by hand. The most visited cities are: Thimphu, Gangtey, Punakha and Paro. The temples, monasteries and rice terraces are the high point. The nest of the Tiger is the most sacred; an icon of Bhutan. Its access is difficult, it is located in the top of a mountain. The hike takes about two hours. It’s an unforgetable place!

It’s not easy to enter the country. You must have hotel previously scheduled, a driver and guide. The bureaucracy is huge, but it is worth it. I stayed in the Aman hotels – which I love!!!! I totally recommend. The hotel provided everything: visa, air tickets from New Delhi, itenerary, and a car. The Tourists cannot circulate freely throughout the country without the company of a guide. This care is for the interference in the local culture be kept to a minimum.

It is a very special destination. One of the places that touched me the most within all my travels around the world. A place where time stops and happiness takes over.
