Is this name familiar to you? Anegada? I guess not, just as it was not for me either. Well this paradise island, actually an atoll, is in the Caribbean, in the British Virgin Islands and is a real treasure. You know one of those blue dream places, with miles and miles of virgin beaches with white sand, full of flamingos, that has not yet been discovered by the a lot of peope? So, write down this tip and do not spread it around. Let’s keep this it a secret between us.
Anegada has only 250 inhabitants. Very few people. The number of goats and mules that circulate free by the atoll is greater than the number of people. Imagine that! It is a rustic place, perfect for those who want to slow down, rest, dive, sail, practice kitesurf and enjoy the pristine nature.
To get there, one must take a 10 minute Airlink flight on a small plane departing from Tortola, the gateway to the BVI (abbreviated British Virgin Islands or British Virgin Islands) or take a 1 hour 15 minute ferry.
Some people choose a quick short trip, but that is a sin. The ideal is to stay at least 4 days in this paradise of 38 square kilometers. Want to know what you can do there? Snorkel in the corals of Loblolly Bay Beach and enjoy the structure of the place for lunch; take a boat to the “Conch Mountain”, a pile of huge shells, in the middle of the sea, made since the Indians inhabited the island; visit the Sanctuary of the Iguanas; and eat a fresh lobster at the The Lobster Trap restaurant along the sand;
Now a super hotel tip. I nailed it by choosing the Anegada Beach Club at Cow Wreck Bay. It has seven brand new beautiful tents on the dunes, plus some rooms in the hotel’s body. It is eco-friendly, very charming, foot in the sand and the best glamping style of luxury without frills. Ah! And, there is no key in the door. Impossible to be nicer.
To circulate around the island, rent a car. The cars are not very new and there are very few on the island. But, they are the best alternative.
An island that deserves a place on your wish list. Conjure Anegada with Anguilla and St. Barth. It will be an amazing trip!
XoXo and see you all next Tuesday!
