Perhaps you’ve never heard of Ponta de Juacema, a spectacular cove protected by the orange walls of a gigantic cliff, where the waves dance with the tide and change moods frequently. This secret hideaway in southern Bahia is located between Praia do Espelho and Caraíva. It is one of the most paradisiacal and imposing sceneries in Brazil, one of those that make you sigh and feel small in the face of the force of nature.

It was exactly there, on a coconut farm, that four years ago the boutique hotel Ponta de Juacema was born, where the Italian Ulisse Baggi receives with tremendous hospitality a select group of guests in his five bungalows nestled high up on the cliffs.

Lucky for us that Ulisse has kept this treasure under lock and key since he arrived in Brazil 40 years ago. At that time, the only access was by boat, in a journey of more than 4 hours from Porto Seguro. Today things have changed in the region. Trancoso, Espelho and Caraíva are full of people, but Ponta de Juacema is still a wild place. After all, access to the hotel is not the easiest and this guarantees privacy. There is not even a sign with the name of the property at the entrance gate, which remains closed at the end of a 6 km long dirt road. Now you understand how secretive it is?

The hotel is an oasis of peace and exclusivity. From the beach you will arrive in Caraíva after walking 7 kilometers, or at the Espelho beach if you walk 5 kilometers in the opposite direction. In other words, isolated. No one around!

The bungalows are huge, far apart from each other, surrounded by a huge coconut grove (after all, it all started as a coconut farm) and by gardens adorned with tropical plants. Hammocks invite you to “dolce far niente”.

The days there are spent unhurriedly walking, diving, kayaking, horseback riding, biking along the beach, and swimming in the river. It is a place for contemplation and to revere mother nature.

The common areas are open to the green and the sea. In fact, the restaurant is another highlight. Everything fresh from breakfast to dinner and connected with the region’s culture. You won’t want to leave the place for anything!
